Pirates Claim Former Rockies Pitcher in Surprising Roster Move
The Colorado Rockies recently waived right handed pitcher Dugan Darnell. This comes as a big surprise to fans. Darnell was a fan favorite for his creative path to the big leagues. The former Rockie has now been claimed off of waivers by the Pittsburgh Pirates. It is known by now that Colorado’s pitching staff simply did not get the job done during the 2025 campaign. However, Dugan Darnell was somewhat of a bright spot in his limited action this year. Darnell appeared in nine games for the Rockies.
Grading Rockies Offense After Abysmal 2025 Season
The Colorado Rockies have a lot to think about this offseason after having the worst record in franchise history in 2025. While the whole team struggled, the offense had the most trouble finding success. Colorado never stood a chance to make the playoffs after starting the season 5-25 through the first 30 games. Being a young team and not having the players to compete plagued the Rockies season. However, having a new front office should provide optimism for the upcoming 2026 season.
Is This the Dark Horse Candidate for the Rockies’ Manager Job?
With the Colorado Rockies general manager search nearing a close, the search for a manager is about to heat up. While it may be a long shot, the hiring of this familiar face could help turn the franchise around. Colorado is going through a complete switch in regards to their front office and coaching staff. This comes as a result of the firing of manager Bud Black on May 11 and general manager Bill Schmidt stepping down from the organization on October 1.
Why the Rockies Must Stay Patient With This Rising Prospect
It is often said that history repeats itself. The Colorado Rockies must make sure that this will not be the case with highly touted prospect. While it is obvious that the Rockies had an awful 2025 campaign, Colorado must not try to force their prospects into the big leagues when they are not ready. Ethan Holliday could be a future superstar and one of the faces of baseball. However, if the Rockies are not patient with him his confidence could be in jeopardy.
Two Rockies Prospects Could Change the Future After Arizona Fall League
After having the type of year that the Colorado Rockies had in 2025, fans would do anything for even a glimmer of hope from their club. After today’s performances by prospects Jared Thomas and Charlie Condon, Rockies fans may have found the hope they needed. The Arizona Fall League (AFL) is underway and Colorado’s prospects have wasted no time showing fans and the organization what they are capable of. The Rockies duo helped lead the Salt River Rafters to a 12-9 win over the Scottsdale Scorpions.
Former Rockies Star Player Named Gold Glove Finalist Once Again
The Colorado Rockies struggled in most aspects of the game in 2025. While hitting was not great on the road and pitching was not great at home, defense provided a bright spot amidst a disappointing season. The Rockies had a solid year defensively. As a group, they posted a .981 fielding percentage along with 110 errors. However, their most trusted defender is no longer part of the organization after he was dealt ahead of the trade deadline.
Rockies Faced Wide Gap in Two Key Statistics at Home and Road in 2025
While the Rockies had immense struggles on the mound at home in 2025, relief pitcher Jimmy Herget was a surprising bright spot. The veteran proved why he was worth the one year contract by posting an impressive 3.15 ERA inside of Coors Field. Herget also extremely effective when it came to getting hitters to strikeout. Herget’s 47 strikeouts at home lead the team despite throwing 29.2 less innings than the team leader Antonio Senzatela.
Letter: Workers can save the American Dream
I keep hearing complaints about how young workers are disloyal. They job-hop, negotiate aggressively, and prioritize their own wellbeing over “company culture.” What looks like cynicism, though, is actually clarity. For decades, companies sold workers a deal: work hard, believe in the mission, and you’ll be taken care of. That deal built a middle-class ethic of loyalty.
Letter: Consider player perspective in college football
As college football season approaches, I’m bracing myself for discussions of how today’s crop of young athletes is ruining the game. “It’s all about the money with these kids!” “There’s no loyalty anymore!” “What about tradition?” I’d like to remind fans that coaches have always operated transactionally. Fan bases and administrators, in pursuit of elusive success, hire mercenary coaches who cash massive checks and bail at the first sign of a better deal. Top coaches earn millions each year.
Letter: Don't cede your writing skills over to AI
In my classes, I’ve found many wonderful ways to use AI. On some topics, ChatGPT (or Chat, as my students might say) performs as well as a textbook, but is much easier to use — and free. On other topics, it struggles mightily and makes up fantasies. This is something that academics like myself must document and teach our students, and that work is happening all across our education system. Using these tools to help start or polish a draft is great.
Letter: Voter for candidates who support improved health care
Two of my siblings and I have recently faced health issues ranging from mild to life-threatening. In all three cases we struggled to navigate the triumvirate of doctors, insurers, and pharmacists that each seemed determined to ensure that we had no idea how much our treatment would cost until it was too late.
Vancouver Warriors: The team you never knew you needed in your life
Vancouver Warriors I should be honest. Before Friday, I’d never watched a lacrosse game in my life. But I can confirm it wasn’t the last. I attended the Vancouver Warriors vs Halifax Thunderbirds game at Rogers Arena, and it was so much fun. I didn’t know what to expect going into the game, but it blew me away. I’ve been to many sporting events throughout my life, but never anything even remotely like this. It’s a straight-up party.
The life and times of Matthew Perry
This past Saturday, Matthew Perry tragically passed away at 54 years old. He’s believed to have drowned in his hot tub. You never really know how death is going to affect you until it happens. This one feels like a punch to the gut. I didn’t realize how influential he was to my childhood until now, and I can’t be the only one who feels this way. The Actor was best remembered for his role as Chandler Bing in the mega-hit sitcom Friends. He also produced and starred in several other TV shows and films.
NFL mid-season awards
How are we already entering Week 9 of the NFL season? It seems to go by faster every year. We’re at that time of the season where you can get a decent picture of which teams are contenders and which teams are looking ahead to next year. We’re also able to see which players are balling out and looking to take home some hardware at NFL Honors. It’s probably too early, but it’s interesting to see who’s in the running. In pretty much every award, it’s close right now.
The Legion of Boom
Have you heard of or been to a Boom Pro Wrestling show before? If you’re unaware, it’s a newer indie wrestling fed that started up last September. So far, they’ve experienced success to a level they only dreamed of. They hosted a doubleheader this past Friday and Saturday night, and both shows were fantastic! Boom takes a different approach to wrestling than most other indie companies. The production is usually subpar if you’ve ever been to a random wrestling show over the years.
Week 8 NFL preview
The Buffalo Bills defeated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 24-18 on Thursday Night Football to kick off week 8 of the NFL season. It was a hard-fought much-needed victory for the Bills who have stumbled a bit over the opening weeks of the season. They’ve already lost as many games as last year. The win put them back on track and extended their record to 5-3. They now sit one game behind the Miami Dolphins for the top spot in the AFC East.
Ten classic horror movies to watch before Halloween
Halloween is only four days away! Boy did that sneak up. With the spooky season comes scary movie season. If you’re a horror aficionado, you probably already have your favorites that you like to watch in preparation for the scariest day of the year. However, some aren’t as privy as to where to start and which ones are worth your time. If you’re looking to have a horror movie marathon, or just watch one or two, this list will detail some of the best classic scary movies of all time.
Top 10 video game consoles ranked
Growing up, I was lucky enough to have a lot of older family members who would give me and my brother their old video game consoles. Because of this, throughout my childhood, I owned an NES, SNES, N64, GameCube, Gameboy, PS2, and Xbox 360 at various times. Plus, I had siblings and cousins with other consoles that I got to play. This gives me a pretty good vantage point to rank the top ten classic video game consoles. Keep in mind, that this is subjective and based on my experience of playing.
The toxicity of dating apps
The advancement of technology throughout the 21st century has been incredible. The World Wide Web was released to the public in 1991. That’s not that long ago when you consider how far we’ve come since then. It didn’t take long for home computers to start to become more prominent. However, dial-up internet made things difficult. But by the 2000s, broadband internet became popular and internet speeds have just gotten progressively faster ever since.
Vancouver: The bad & the ugly
In my last article, I talked about the best parts of living in Vancouver. What I came up with really told the story of just how awesome this city is. If you want to read about the good of Vancouver, click the link below: Vancouver: The Good | Evolution 107.9 (bcit.ca) That’s a lot of positives. Vancouver has so much to offer, but it’s not perfect. Far from it. There are a few issues though that could stand to be corrected.
Vancouver: The Good
At its core, Vancouver really is a beautiful city. Its small area gives it a unique appeal with the abundance of skyscrapers surrounded by luscious green areas and mountain ranges. When I moved here from Kamloops for school about a year ago, I expected the worst living in a big city could provide. But it didn’t take me long to start to fall in love with my new home. There’s so much opportunity everywhere, and that’s an exciting proposition. However, that doesn’t mean it’s all sunshine and rainbows.

The two different types of fiber are insoluble and soluble.

It’s common to have bad breath from food, smoking, dry mouth, infections, etc. To ensure your breath is in peak condition, here are a few tips to help you avoid foul odor-producing bacteria. Memorial Day is an important day for many Americans. It’s a day to remember and honor many that have paid their lives for our country, and it is a special day for many family members who have served in the military. It’s an important day when we all come together to celebrate the lives of those that have been lost and to enjoy the company of those around us. This year, many things can be done in celebration; here are only a few that Addison has to offer.
Spendo: Classic rock with a modern twist
Spendo has found a brilliant way to mix the classic rock of old with a modern sound. The group from Vancouver makes incredible music that will stick with you. They aim for a 1970s California vibe, and they have accomplished that goal. The foursome includes Spencer Tomlinson (lead vocals/guitar), Bradley Lambert (lead guitar/vocals), Trevor Crane (drums/vocals), and Kyle Stegen (bass/vocals). Waiting for Years… was their first release. It came out in 2018 and it’s such a good album.
From rags to riches, Barns Courtney is on fire
Post navigation ← Previous Barnaby Courtney, better known as Barns Courtney, was born in England but moved to Seattle with his family when he was four. He then moved back to England when he was 15. He always wanted to be a musician and was in two different bands during his early career. First SleeperCell, then Dive Bella Dive. He worked odd jobs and slept on couches as he struggled to make a living. After his bands disbanded, he went solo, releasing “Glitter & Gold” in 2015.
Broken Shins: James Mercer can do it all
Post navigation ← Previous James Mercer can truly do it all. The multi-faceted musician is the frontman for two immensely popular bands: The Shins and Broken Bells. I like how each band has its own unique sound, to the point that there’s no way to mix the two up. The Shins are more of your classic indie band, while Broken Bells utilize a more electronic sound. The list of great songs by The Shins is too long to even try to go through. They’re such a good band.
More Paramore, please and thank you
Paramore is a band from Tennessee that has gone through many iterations throughout its tenure. Throughout it all, they are immediately recognized by the singing of Haley Williams. The other current band members are Zac Farro (drums) and Taylor York (guitar). Their debut album, All We Know is Falling, was released in 2005.
Are Kings of Leon the kings of rock?
Post navigation ← Previous You could make the argument that Kings of Leon are the biggest rock band of the modern era. The band from Nashville that formed in 1999 consists of three brothers and a cousin. Caleb, Jared, Nathan Followill, and their cousin Matthew named their band after their Grandpa Leon. They’ve changed their sound over the years. Earlier on, they were a mix of southern rock and garage rock, but as their popularity grew, they transitioned into more of an alternative rock sound.
Matching songs from Evolution with Vancouver wrestlers
Post navigation ← Previous I’m a big music fan and an even bigger wrestling fan. So naturally, I’ve always had a bit of an obsession with wrestling theme songs. It can’t be understated how important a good theme song is for a wrestler. It’s what the fans know you by. It’s part of a wrestler’s persona. A good or bad theme song can make or break a wrestler’s career. I got to thinking about the local wrestling scene and the music we play here on Evolution, and it gave me an idea.
The Sheepdogs make music that soothes the soul
The Sheepdogs are a throwback to the rock of old. Their music feels good for the soul. It’s the kind of music that you want to hear sitting around a fire on a summer evening. They’ve described their music as a blend of Led Zeppelin and Crosby, Stills & Nash. The band from Saskatoon includes Ewan Currie, Ryan Gullen, Sam Corbett, Ricky Paquette, and Shamus Currie. They’ve won four JUNO awards and were the first band to ever be on the cover of Rolling Stone before they were signed.
Anyway Gang: Canada’s newest supergroup
What constitutes a supergroup? Well, in my opinion, every member of the group must be part of a well-known band. By that criterion, Anyway Gang is certainly a supergroup. It includes Sam Roberts, Chris Murphy from Sloan, Menno Versteeg from Hollerado, and Dave Monks from Tokyo Police Club. That’s a stacked collection of talent that has all left their mark in the music industry in their own right. Their style, which has been described as “punchy pop,” is the perfect kind of music to jam out to.
K.Flay is a genre-defying trailblazer
I have a hard time figuring out which box to put K.Flay in. She incorporates a mix of hip-hop, rock, pop, and indie into her music and it makes for a fantastic sound. Born Kristine Flaherty, she’s from Los Angeles and has a wide range of influences. These include Royal Blood, Missy Elliott, Garbage, Lauryn Hill, Tame Impala, Jeremih, Metric, M.I.A., OutKast, Liz Phair, Cat Power, and Shlohmo. Earlier on, she was more of a rapper.
Don’t miss The National in Burnaby on June 5!
Post navigation ← Previous I was late to the party when it comes to The National. But when it comes to discovering any great band, better late than never. I’m a big post-punk fan. I love the brooding tone, experimental riffs, and gothic influence. It soothes me. The National hits the post-punk vibe out of the park. They’re one of the better post-punk revival bands I’ve heard.
Young the Giant and Milky Chance: A doubleheader you won’t want to miss
Post navigation ← Previous Young the Giant will be coming to Vancouver with Milky Chance on Thursday, August 10 at Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre. It’s a double bill that should be a great show. Both bands come from very different places but attract a similar audience. Young the Giant, formerly The Jakes, started out in Irvine, California, while Milky Chance is from Kassel Germany. The self-titled album, Young the Giant, made a big impact in 2010 with all three singles charting.
Soccer Mommy has only scratched the surface
Sophia Allison, known to the world as Soccer Mommy, truly can do it all. She IS Soccer Mommy. She sings and plays guitar, drums, saxophone, and bass. Born in Zurich, Switzerland, she moved to Nashville when she was two and grew up there. She started playing guitar and writing music at six years old while attending the Nashville School of the Arts. She would post songs to Bandcamp as Soccer Mommy starting in 2015 while going to York University to study music business.
The Phillips Backyard Concert Series is back in Victoria for two awesome weekends!
The Phillips Backyard Concert Series returns to Victoria this summer for two packed weekends of live music! You can get single-day tickets, and weekend passes, or you can buy a pass for both weekends all in one go! The Tilt series runs from Friday, July 7 until Sunday, July 9, and is loaded with talent. On July 7, Lord Huron headlines a stacked lineup also featuring JJ Wilde, Neal Francis, Pastel Blank, and Skye Wallace. To me, JJ Wilde would be the act I most want to see.
The Interrupters are here to stay
Aimee Interrupter (Allen) sings her heart out while the Bivona brothers take care of the guitar (Kevin), bass (Justin), and drums (Jesse). The Interrupters, a ska-punk band from Los Angeles, got their big break touring with Rancid early on. Not a bad start before they even released their debut album. Their sound has changed a bit over the years. Earlier on, they were more of a traditional ska-punk band, but they evolved into a bit more of an indie rock sound.
