Warning: Skillet-Licking Ahead with these Apple Butter Pork Chops
Okay, I’m calling it. These Apple Butter Pork Chops might just be the recipe you keep on repeat this fall season. Thick-cut pork chops are rubbed with a spiced brown sugar mix, seared until caramelized and juicy, then served with a rich apple butter sauce with onions and collard greens. Not only will the flavors in this dish help you celebrate autumn, but it’ll also leave your family full and tempted to lick the skillet. These apple pork chops a…
Shrimp Boil Magic: One Pot, All the Flavor, Zero Fuss
Every year during our beach trip, my family makes a big shrimp boil—though my parents have always called it a Low Country Boil. We spread it out on a newspaper-covered table, gather round, and dig in with our hands. It’s messy, fun, and downright delicious! This Shrimp Boil recipe is my take on that family favorite. It’s a full meal in one pot with juicy shrimp, smoky sausage, tender potatoes, sweet corn, a punch of zesty Old Bay, and a Cajun-sp…
5 Easy School Night Dinners
This post may contain affiliate links. Read our disclosure here. The transition back into school can be tough, no matter how you educate your kids. I always like the return of more structure, but it also means that we are busier with more activities. Especially as kids get older, the evenings can get really busy. You also may want to be able to spend time with your kids in the afternoons instead of slaving away in the kitchen (and in the South, it’s way too hot to be doing that!).
Pair these Puff Pastry Samosas with a chutney, for a delicious snack
Not everyone is familiar with samosas, but after trying this easy, budget-friendly version, I’m pretty sure you’ll be hooked! Samosas are a beloved Indian snack with historical roots that trace back to Central Asia and the Middle East. They’re filled with spiced vegetables (or meat, but there are sweet versions, too!) and are either baked or fried. To keep things simple and affordable, I’m using pantry staples, and instead of making a traditiona…
Pair this onion chutney with samosas, curry, or to liven up leftovers!
If there’s one thing you should know about me, it’s that I LOVE condiments—I always ask for extra on the side, and when it comes to this Onion Chutney, I ask for triple! Chutney comes in all kinds of forms and is often a flavorful blend of fruits or vegetables, spices, and something tangy or sweet, like vinegar and sugar, to balance it out. With its Indian roots, this chutney is packed with bold and vibrant flavors. The recipe I’m sharing here i…
Easy Homemade Kimchi—Tangy, fermented, and budget-friendly!
Once upon a time, I auditioned for one of those reality food shows, and my kimchi spring rolls got me to the next level of auditions (If you haven’t tried them yet, I posted a budget-friendly version here on the blog!) Why would a recipe like that get me flown to Los Angeles, you ask? Well, the judge asked me how I made my kimchi, and apparently, I aced his test; it’s not simply pickled; it’s fermented! I’ve always loved fermented foods, and thi…
Grocery store hacks
A practical tip from NPR reader Lisa Gluskin: check your receipt before you leave the parking lot of the grocery store. If you spot an error at home, you will be less likely to go back to the store to right the wrong. A couple tips: If you must visit multiple stores, make sure they are close to your home or else the gas expense will eat away at the money saved at the store. Also, instead of planning a meal and then buying overpriced ingredients, try flipping the script.
This homemade banana bread is as good as Starbucks' for a fraction of the cost!
One day, a friend was telling me about how she used to be so in love with the Starbucks banana bread, and all I could think about was how the price for one slice is probably more than it costs to make a whole loaf, so I had to work on a dupe. It took about eight tries, but I finally made a homemade banana bread recipe that is super rich, moist, and totally melt-in-your-mouth delicious. And the best part? It ended up costing about $0.52 per slice…
One-Pan Roasted Chicken and Vegetables
The thing I love about roasted chicken and vegetables is that it’s such a simple thing to make but it’s always so deliciously impressive. It’s the type of thing you can make for a casual family meal or when company is coming over and it fits just as well for either occasion. I’m very fond of roasting a whole chicken, but sometimes when I’m serving company and not banking on having leftovers, I’ll opt to just roast pieces for easier serving. Here’s my favorite way to do it.
One Pan Salmon Dinner: budget-friendly, easy, and minimal cleanup!
No changes to the salmon tax This is what NRK writes. Both parties proposed to change an important part of the salmon tax, but it ended up that neither of the two parties would support each other's proposals in the Storting. The disagreements led to neither of the proposals receiving a majority. Both parties wanted to scrap the norm price council, which is an independent body that sets a price at which the farmer must pay tax. – Both the Conser…
According to my husband, this is “the best Reuben he's ever had!"
According to my husband, this is “the best Reuben he's ever had!" I love a good sandwich, especially when it’s quick, easy, and cheap to make. This homemade Reuben sandwich recipe uses baked corned beef from my corned beef and cabbage recipe, along with sauerkraut, thousand island dressing, and Swiss cheese. It’s a classic recipe that’s simple to make and tastes even better than you can imagine.

One-Pan Skillet Lasagna
Lasagna is a family favorite but that doesn’t mean there’s always ample time to make it. But there is this weeknight solution — One-Pan Skillet Lasagna — that achieves the exact same flavor in just 30 minutes and, yes, in just one pan. What Ingredients Do I Need For Skillet Lasagna? Mostly, you need the same things you need for regular lasagna: Lasagna noodles — 9 of them. Make sure it’s not the no-boil variety. Ground beef — but you could sub in Italian sausage. Your favorite marinara sauce.

10 Savory Pumpkin Recipes for Fall Cooking
This post may contain affiliate links. Read our disclosure here. I love making recipes with pumpkin in the fall. Some of my favorites are pumpkin muffins and pumpkin bread. I tend to veer toward sweet pumpkin recipes, but pumpkin doesn’t have a super strong flavor, so you can also use it to make lots of savory recipes with just a touch of sweetness.
