1 Introduction Mean temperature (Tavg) is an important indicator of energy in the Earth-atmosphere (E-A) system and a key measure of climatic change; however, changes in Tavg are influenced by variations in minimum (Tmin) and maximum temperatures (Tmax) (Qu et al. 2014; Sun et al. 2019), which are not always symmetric (Vose et al. 2005; Davy et al. 2017).
