On a recent trip to the Piedmont region of Italy, the hilly area that borders France and Switzerland, photographic opportunity and a lovely view intersected for me and…ecco! Your ability to capture in a photo the picture you see with your eyes (which are vastly more sensitive to light and have more color receptors than any camera) will greatly improve if you have a bit of basic photography knowledge.
“Aunt Emily is baking this morning!” Mattie Dickinson announces to her brother Ned and their friends. The children cheer. They all know what this means. Baking day is the best day to pretend to be pirates, knights, cowboys or gypsies in the large back yard of the Dickinson homestead. Emily Dickinson (1830 – 1886), now recognized as one of the world’s most important poets, was best known to her neighbors as an accomplished baker and a loyal friend who regularly shared her sweet treats with them.
Raw baking—isn’t that a contradiction? Well, in fact it may be lying a bit in saying that something baked can be raw. I make desserts, but technically speaking, I don’t bake anything. However, you could call my creations something similar to baked goods, since I have become a little bit famous for my raw vegan cakes, pies, tarts and other sweet treats. Another question: how could a cake be raw?
