'It's devastating': Fire damages Round Hill Ruritan building

A fire early Thursday morning caused extensive damage to the Round Hill Ruritan's longtime meeting space, destroying much of the service club’s possessions and leaving members facing a lengthy rebuilding process. The building, located at 164 Poorhouse Road just west of Winchester, sustained an estimated $300,000 in damage, according to Ruritan President Natalie Larrick. The fire was reported around 2 a.m. after a passerby noticed smoke coming from the building, Larrick said.

Md. man dead following I-81 motorcycle pursuit

A Maryland man was killed on Sunday following a pursuit with state police on Interstate 81 in Frederick County. At approximately 3:46 p.m., troopers spotted two motorcycles traveling northbound on I-81 at a "high rate of speed," Virginia State Police spokesperson Matthew Demlein said. One motorcycle stopped when signaled by police, but the other motorcycle reportedly sped away, driving at an "extremely high speed for about two to three miles" before striking two pickup trucks.
