Which Thoughts Require Sensory Capacities?
1 Introduction To what extent, if any, does the capacity for thought depend on the capacity for sensing? We can distinguish four views on this issue: Strong Nativism: Every thinkable thought is such that it's possible to think it even if one does not have and never had any sensory capacity. Weak Nativism: Some thoughts are such that it's possible to think them even if one does not have and never had any sensory capacity.
The future fate of Somali upwelling productivity and the implications for fisheries under climate change
Abstract The Somali upwelling is the strongest upwelling region globally during its seasonal peak. The intense productivity that occurs during the southwest monsoon (May-September) sustains artisanal and industrial fisheries. However, due to its complex structure and seasonality, and the typically coarse spatial resolution of global climate models, understanding its future fate remains a challenge.
Four ppm measurement of the antihydrogen ground-state hyperfine splitting

Abstract The hydrogen atom is a touchstone for the foundations, evolution and frontiers of quantum theory1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9. Key spectral lines of this atom have been determined to remarkable precision10,11. Our research focuses on the study of antihydrogen, the antimatter counterpart of hydrogen. We test fundamental symmetries of nature (such as simultaneous charge conjugation, parity inversion, and time reversal or CPT symmetry) through precision comparisons of these atomic systems12.

Boosting Soil Pore Space Humidity Key to No-Till Success
Takeaways It is a mistake for no-tillers to disturb soil in way when sowing crops into untilled soils. The avoidance of soil disturbance affects soil biology positively. If retained in the soil when no-tilling, soil pore space humidity is capable of germinating seeds and energizing soil microbes. Despite extraordinary progress, no-tillage is still awaiting the discovery of a “silver bullet” before it will become cemented as the irreversible replacement for conventional tillage on a global scale.
Be+ assisted, simultaneous confinement of more than 15000 antihydrogen atoms - Nature Communications

Abstract Antihydrogen, the bound state of a positron and an antiproton, is the only pure anti-atomic system ever studied. It is produced exclusively in the laboratory, as it has never been observed in nature. This unique system is of great interest for searching for tentative differences between matter and antimatter.

PRevention intervention and Support in Mental health for people with aphasia (Aphasia PRISM): acceptability and feasibility results of two mixed methods feasibility studies
ABSTRACT Background Interventions are available to support psychological care for those with aphasia after stroke. However, barriers restrict their implementation in healthcare services. The Stepped Psychological Care Framework can inform multidisciplinary stroke clinicians on the level of management required for emotional problems. Based on level 1 preventative interventions, we developed the Aphasia PRevention Intervention and Support in Mental health program (Aphasia PRISM).
Rotational orientation control of a ground state ortho-H2 dissociation on a metal surface - Nature Communications
Abstract When hydrogen molecules collide with a surface, they can either scatter away from the surface or undergo dissociative chemisorption. The relative probabilities of these different outcomes could depend on the rotational orientation of the impinging molecules, however, due to the lack of steric control techniques for ground state hydrogen, they could not be measured directly.
In-situ ion irradiation of fission products in a spent UO2 fuel
A comprehensive understanding of the behavior of nuclear fuels under irradiation is critical for enhancing the efficiency and safety of nuclear reactors. Uranium dioxide (UO2), the primary fuel used in commercial light water reactors, experiences significant microstructural changes during nuclear fission, driven by the generation of fission products within the UO2 matrix. Noble gases like xenon (Xe) and krypton (Kr), accounting for about 15 % of fission products, have low solubility in UO2 [1].

Leveraging Synteny to Generate Reference Genomes for Conservation: Assembling the Genomes of Hector's and Māui Dolphins
1 Introduction Assembly of reference genomes for threatened species presents a challenge primarily due to the limited availability of high-quality tissue samples, resulting in a lack of high molecular weight DNA for sequencing (Formenti et al. 2022). Therefore, these assemblies tend to be represented by many non-assigned scaffolds, making these genomes highly fragmented and not at chromosomal level (Totikov et al. 2021).

Inefficient transfer of diatoms through the subpolar Southern Ocean twilight zone - Nature Geoscience
Abstract The Southern Ocean, a region highly vulnerable to climate change, plays a vital role in regulating global nutrient cycles and atmospheric CO2 via the biological carbon pump. Diatoms, photosynthetically active plankton with dense opal skeletons, are key to this process as their exoskeletons are thought to enhance the transfer of particulate organic carbon to depth, positioning them as major vectors of carbon storage.
Numerical assessments of geometry, proximity and multi-electrode effects on electroporation in mitochondria and the endoplasmic reticulum to nanosecond electric pulses | Scientific Reports
Abstract Most simulations of electric field driven bioeffects have considered spherical cellular geometries or probed symmetrical structures for simplicity. This work assesses cellular transmembrane potential build-up and electroporation in a Jurkat cell that includes the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) and mitochondria, both of which have complex shapes, in response to external nanosecond electric pulses.

Universal DNA methylation age across mammalian tissues - Nature Aging
|
Abstract Aging, often considered a result of random cellular damage, can be accurately estimated using DNA methylation profiles, the foundation of pan-tissue epigenetic clocks. Here, we demonstrate the development of universal pan-mammalian clocks, using 11,754 methylation arrays from our Mammalian Methylation Consortium, which encompass 59 tissue types across 185 mammalian species. These predictive models estimate mammalian tissue age with high accuracy (r > 0.96).

Mitochondrial diversity and inter-specific phylogeny among dolphins of the genus Stenella in the Southwest Atlantic Ocean
Stenella dolphins from Brazilian waters All species exhibited moderate to high levels of genetic variability when looking at all gene regions concatenated (Table 1). Haplotype diversity was highest in S. coeruleolba and in S. clymene (both h = 1) and lowest in S. attenuata (h = 0.833). Nucleotide diversity was highest in S. clymene (π = 0.015) and lowest in S. frontalis (π = 0.006) (Table 1). The rank of species for both indices varied depending on the gene being analyzed (S3 Table). Table 1.

Investigation of the fine structure of antihydrogen
Abstract At the historic Shelter Island Conference on the Foundations of Quantum Mechanics in 1947, Willis Lamb reported an unexpected feature in the fine structure of atomic hydrogen: a separation of the 2S1/2 and 2P1/2 states1. The observation of this separation, now known as the Lamb shift, marked an important event in the evolution of modern physics, inspiring others to develop the theory of quantum electrodynamics2,3,4,5.

Reestablishment of former wintering grounds by New Zealand southern right whales
Historically, the range of the southern right whale (SRW) included winter calving grounds around the North and South Islands (mainland) of New Zealand (NZ) and in the NZ subantarctic Auckland and Campbell Islands. Due to extensive whaling in the 19th and 20th centuries, no SRW was seen around mainland NZ for nearly four decades (1928–1963).

Observation of the 1S-2S transition in trapped antihydrogen
Experimental comparison of the spectra of hydrogen and antihydrogen was one of the main scientific motivations for the construction of CERN’s Antiproton Decelerator5. Of utility is the 1S–2S transition, owing to the long lifetime (about 1/8?s) of the 2S state and the associated narrow frequency width of the transition (a few hertz at 2.5?×?1015?Hz). A comparison of the hydrogen and antihydrogen frequencies for this transition is therefore potentially an extremely sensitive test of CPT symmetry.
LETTERS: Let’s get moving now on Arenex rebuilding
Dear Editor: The Arenex is insured. Why not take advantage of that and start building it immediately instead of pushing the rebuild out while installing a temporary bubble that would be used for a few years and then taken down to start rebuilding the new facility. Rebuild costs will only increase in the two or more years, and with the insurance coverage, the new building might be finished sooner.
Observation of the 1S-2S transition in trapped antihydrogen
The spectrum of the hydrogen atom has played a central part in fundamental physics in the past 200 years.

How to Start Your Own Business While On The Job
Optimism and self-confidence are great qualities for intrapreneurs and entrepreneurs alike. But they can easily turn into naïveté if you don’t have a backup plan. Having a great idea, a great team, strong backing, and deep resources significantly increase your chances of success. But even with all that, sometimes things don’t work out the way you’d hoped. Life can be awfully unpredictable, and it doesn’t pay to be overconfident.
