We read with interest the article by Goubar et al. [1] in this issue entitled ‘Anti-reflux procedures in Australia, 2000/1 to 2023/4: increasing rates in females and in older patients’. Although the authors' aim was to analyse long-term national trends in upper gastrointestinal surgery, we suggest that their study has raised more questions than answers.
