Interview

What was your first job as a journalist?

My first gig was in radio as the news director at my college radio station. I learned the importance of multimedia and setting a scene there.

How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?

Email is preferred, so I can get to it at my leisure. Though if someone were enthusiastic enough to pick up a phone, I'd be more receptive.

What's your favorite social network?

Twitter. Hands down. Twitter gives journalists a live-reporting outlet that print journalists previously didn't have access to.

When's the best time to pitch you?

Anytime, as long as you are willing to be patient. I cover breaking news, so I often have to drop my plans at a moment's notice.

Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?

I'm very into emerging news formats like Buzzfeed and The Crime Report. They understand what it is to engage audiences in modern society.
