A family business went head-to-head with their local parish council after neighbours complained about a proposed alcohol licence. Charnwood Borough Council's Licensing Sub-committee met on Wednesday (June 17) to discuss an application for a new license at 814 Melton Road. The Saini Mart Stop and Shop is a family business which opened just two months ago, and now wants an alcohol licence from 7am to 10pm to compete with surrounding off-licences.

Barrow-upon-Soar villagers say the area is already 'full' as 350 more homes set for green light

Controversial plans for more than 350 homes in a Leicestershire village look likely to be approved despite fears the area is already at breaking point. Charnwood Borough Council's (CBC) plans committee will next week consider two housing developments in Barrow-upon-Soar which would together deliver 351 new homes. The first would see 130 homes built on land off Cotes Road, while the second proposes 221 homes north of Willow Road, alongside land for a new primary school.
