INTRODUCTION Autism spectrum disorder (hereafter autism) is a neurodevelopmental condition that persists throughout the lifespan (Guthrie et al., 2013). Worldwide prevalence rates of autism diagnoses are reported to be between 1.0% (Zeidan et al., 2022) and 1.68% (Baio et al., 2018), with estimates in the USA as high as 2.78% (Maenner et al., 2020).
Last week, the Queensland government accepted in principle recommendations from a 2022 inquiry into the rights of donor-conceived people. Donor conception is a technique to facilitate pregnancy using donated sperm and/or eggs. Queensland is among the least progressive jurisdictions in Australia on donor conception.
Highlights • The majority of participating donor-conceived adults had sought donor information (88.4%) and/or donor contact (72.5%). • The most common motivations reported for each were similar and related to medical information, curiosity and identity. • Seeking donor information: likelihood of being motivated by wanting medical information decreased with participant age and increased when anxiety had been experienced.
