Hertford County budget approved

Property tax rate remains unchanged WINTON – The final numbers are set in place as the Hertford County Board of Commissioners have approved the county’s operating budget for FY 2026-27. At their regularly scheduled meeting here last week, the commissioners voted 5-0 in approving a General Fund budget totaling $33,993,845. The approval of the budget ordinance also included the annual schedule of fees, of which there were no major changes. The total for all funds is $39,698,324.

Well-loved librarian passed away June 5 In a photo taken in 2023, Pat Familar stands outside the Gates County Public Library, where she served as Branch Manager from September of 1983 until her death earlier this month. The wording on the library’s entryway will soon be changed to the Patricia Brown Familiar Memorial Library.

However, as some might say, “the proof is in the pudding” as Ward now has 15 Sports Emmys to his credit. The latest honor came May 26 at the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) 47th annual Sports Emmy® Awards.
