Tabanomorpha includes the families Tabanidae, Rhagionidae, Athericidae, Pelecorhynchidae, Bolbomyiidae, Vermilionidae, Austroleptidae, and Oreoleptidae (Wiegmann & Yeates, 2017). This infraorder includes approximately 5,900 species and represents a diverse lineage of large flies that plays a key role in the evolutionary history of Diptera (Wiegmann & Yeates, 2017). The monophyly of Tabanomorpha is supported by both morphological (Yeates, 2002) and molecular evidence (Song, Yi & Yin, 2022).
