Rain and embedded thunderstorms move in late Tuesday night

Non-severe thunderstorms will move across northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin Tuesday night, lasting through Wednesday morning. Pockets of heavy and steady rainfall will be possible through the night, but the highest rainfall totals are expected to occur over central and eastern Iowa. There, rainfall totals of nearly two inches could come down.

Showers return with mid-week cold front

The late summer heat and humidity sure came in full force to kick off the month of September. Beginning September 1st and lasting through the 4th, we achieved four straight days of 90-degree heat. Temperatures over the weekend fell below the 90-degree mark, but Sunday’s high of 84 degrees felt a little more comfortable than Saturday’s high of 84 due to some drier air and high pressure.

Heat returns Friday with a few storms possible

Temperatures for the third day in a row warmed into the low 90s, with Rockford’s high reaching 90-degrees. Areas to the north and northeast stayed in the 80s while west and southwest of Rockford warmed into the low to mid 90s with heat index readings reaching above 100 degrees. A few showers dotted the skies to the north in Wisconsin and to the west in Iowa, but none of that activity was able to work through northern Illinois leaving us dry and muggy Thursday evening.
