I found this wonderful true story, written by Rabbi Yossi Ives of Pomona, New York, on the Chabad website. Here is my retelling. In the early days of World War I, Jerusalem was a bitter place, with inflation and poverty a scourge upon the inhabitants. Yet somehow, a certain man managed to save a little money. He converted his cash into a gold Napoleon, which would maintain its value. This coin he placed atop his chest of drawers for safekeeping.
