DNA nicks in both leading and lagging strand templates can trigger break-induced replication
Abstract Encounters between replication forks and unrepaired single-strand DNA breaks (SSBs) generate single-ended double-strand breaks (seDSBs) that can later become double-ended (deDSBs) through fork convergence. seDSBs can be repaired by break-induced replication (BIR), which is a highly mutagenic pathway that is thought to be repsonsible for many of the mutations and genome rearrangements that drive cancer development.
Gene duplication and deletion caused by over-replication at a fork barrier - Nature Communications
Abstract Replication fork stalling can provoke fork reversal to form a four-way DNA junction. This remodelling of the replication fork can facilitate repair, aid bypass of DNA lesions, and enable replication restart, but may also pose a risk of over-replication during fork convergence.
Author Correction: Rad52’s DNA annealing activity drives template switching associated with restarted DNA replication - Nature Communications
Correction to: Nature Communications; https://doi.org/10.1038/s41467-022-35060-4;published online 26 November 2022 The original version of this Article omitted from the author list the author Manisha Jalan, who is from the Department of Biochemistry, University of Oxford. Consequently, the following was added to the Author Contributions: A.K., S.T., M.O.N., J.O., and M.J.: conceived and performed experiments.
7 bonsai myths you shouldn't believe
The incredibly rewarding horticultural art of bonsai has seen consistent interest from the gardening public during the 34 years I have been growing them. This interest is a mix of awe and disbelief and it has the peculiar effect of causing many competent gardeners to forget most of their skills when confronted by a small tree in a pot. Bonsai can be quite easy to care for once the conditions surrounding the tree are right.
Rad52’s DNA annealing activity drives template switching associated with restarted DNA replication - Nature Communications
Abstract It is thought that many of the simple and complex genomic rearrangements associated with congenital diseases and cancers stem from mistakes made during the restart of collapsed replication forks by recombination enzymes.
