Carla Berg’s Biography

Carla is a veteran sci-med-tech journalist, a former print columnist (Knight-Ridder), founder of a full-service communications firm that servied hundreds of Bay Area clients for two decades, and a former international forum host (Mind-Brain Sciences, CompuServe), known for easing dialogue between clincians, scientists and layfolk.

A perceptive commentator and social media strategist, she has long tracked converging trends in science, healthcare, tech and innovation, alongside avid interests in "design think" and behavior change. A former NIH grant reviewer (via pcori.org) and active in the Society for Participatory Medicine (#s4pm), she also designed and hosted the group's first online community.

Since moving to Arizona, she has held University fellowships in the Dept. of Psychology (social media) and School of Medicine (telehealth), mentored MBA students as a project lead at the Eller School of Business, and partnered with a former UC chancellor to run a statewide "green" campaign. Today, she hosts two health-focused Twitter feeds (@Synergista and @InnoCiter), that explore the shifting sands of healthcare reform and business innovation and is compilng books on behavior change in times of change (watch for "Dinosaurs in the Sandbox" ).

Now retired from the Executive Board of #S4PM, she continues to work in strategic communications for healthy change and as a public advocate for doctor-patient partnerships that increase patient engagement and reduce overtreatment.
