Import Carlisle show attracts younger generation of car enthusiasts
When the import Carlisle show started 40 years ago, it was designed to be a club gathering and swap meet for people who loved vintage imported cars–mostly British ones–as well as kit cars. Picture rows of MGs and Triumphs, Alfas and Fiats. Aside from some dune buggies, most of those cars are gone. At this year’s Import & Performance Nationals, there were probably more Hyundais than British roadsters.

It’s the middle of May, which means it’s time for one of our favorite celebrations of cars from all across the globe, the Carlisle Import & Performance Nationals. This weekend, May 16-17, over 1500 cars and thousands of enthusiasts are expected to descend upon the Carlisle Fairgrounds in Carlisle, Pennsylvania–and your friends from Classic Motorsports will be there, too.
Carlisle Import & Performance Nationals evolves for a new generation
Afraid that the next generation hasn’t embraced car culture? Then you haven’t been to Carlisle’s import show. The show's transformation can now be called complete. Since 1986, the folks at Pennsylvania’s Carlisle Fairgrounds have hosted an annual spring import show. When we first started attending in the early ’90s, we praised the great swap meet, strong camaraderie and growing car show that featured some 100 machines.

Did we mention that there will be a Brew Mixer? That’s right, and we’ll also be on hand, too, plus so much more, at the Carlisle Import & Performance Nationals. The Brew Mixer features five confirmed breweries participating. It takes place Saturday, May 11, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. There will also be live music. There’s no additional charge to the Brew Mixer, either, except for the brews themselves, of course. The show starts 7 a.m. daily, May 10-11. For more information visit carlisleevents.com.
Packed Crowds, Perfect Weather and Cars From All Over the World | Carlisle Recap
What started as a swap meet has morphed into one of the largest and most diverse car events on the East Coast. Call it a bucket-list event for fans of imports. This year’s features included the national Opel meet as well as a stunning turnout of Manx owners as they memorialized the life of Manx creator Bruce Myers. If Manxes and Opels aren’t your thing, you could also find everything from old British roadsters to newer JDM-type machines.
