Carol Mithers’s Biography

I'm the author, with 2011 Nobel Peace Prize winner, Leymah Gbowee, of Mighty Be Our Powers: How Sisterhood, Sex and Prayer Changed a Nation at War. Excerpts from this book appeared in Reader's Digest and Newsweek, and it's been reprinted in more than fourteen countries. Mighty Be Our Powers received a starred Kirkus Review, was a finalist for the Dayton Literary Peace Prize in nonfiction, and was recommended as one of 52 "books worth reading"​ by TED speakers -- in this case, Melinda Gates.

I'm also the author of Therapy Gone Mad, which detailed the rise and fall of a psychotherapy cult in California, and have written for a wide variety of publications, including the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, LA Weekly, Salon, The Daily Beast, O the Oprah Magazine, MORE, Town & Country, Architectural Digest, Ladies'​ Home Journal, Glamour, and Self.

Government/foundation work includes consulting on the Global Fund for Women report "Caught in the Storm: The Impact of Natural Disasters on Women,"​ which won a Council on Foundations Wilmer Shields Rich Award for Excellence in Communications, and editing on "Straight From the Heart,"​ a retrospective of the work of Los Angeles mayor Antonio Villaraigosa.
