Introduction Care home workers are often overlooked in general workforce research,1 with the cooking, cleaning and housekeeping workforce (hereafter called ancillary staff) in care homes especially under-represented. The contributions of ancillary staff are vital to the running of the care home and enhancing the wellbeing of care home residents – for example, keeping the facility clean and comfortable, cooking meals and providing company.
