Carrie Lyell is a communications specialist, writer, and former Editor-in-Chief of DIVA, one of the world's leading LGBTQIA+ magazines.
From 2021 to 2024, they worked in comms at trans youth charity Mermaids, most recently as Head of Digital and Communications. In 2024, their team was shortlisted for Team of the Year in the CharityComms Inspiring Communicator Awards, where they also named in the Strategic Leader of the Year category.
In April 2025, they joined NCVO as Strategic Communications Lead, supporting the organisation's comms, campaigns, and marketing. Carrie is also on the board of trustees of Proud Changemakers, a charity that elevates, advocates, and supports LGBTQIA+ voices across civil society. Additionally, they offer ad-hoc support to individuals and organisations with various communications needs on a consultancy basis. Previous clients include a feminist design agency, a London-based sports club, a new properties business, and a US creative firm.
A respected voice in the LGBTQIA+ community, Carrie has been shortlisted in the Write To End Violence Against Women awards, twice named in the Pride Power List and the DIVA Power List, as well Attitude Magazine’s 101 LGBTQ Trailblazers changing the world.
They have appeared on the likes of BBC Breakfast and LBC and on numerous podcasts including Anthems, Girls On Film, and Queer Longing. Carrie's writing has been featured in The Guardian, The Independent, Metro, Gay Times, Somewhere For Us, and others.
