Learn more about Muck RackI’m Carter, a journalist drawn to stories that reflect the diversity, complexity, and resilience of the people behind them. I report on education, healthcare, and technology with the Jacksonville Business Journal, where I explore how these systems intersect and shape life on the First Coast.
Placed second among college students for the Society of Professional Journalist's Sunshine State Award "Best Coverage of LGBT Issues" for a Feb. 2022 article about the "Don't Say Gay" bill titled: "Parental Rights in Education bill will “hurt a very vulnerable community,” UNF LGBT Center director says".
Spinnaker was recognized with an Online Pacemaker Award for the online coverage I led between June 2022 and June 2023. We were one of 18 student-run news organizations to win the award at four-year universities across the U.S. and the only student-run news source in Florida to win the award.
Placed third among college students for the category of “best news reporter in the south” which judged news coverage on any single topic or multiple topics, on or off campus. Submitted a trio of articles written for the Spinnaker: “UNF scrambling to develop new recycling plan in response to national labor shortage” “Szymanski offers faculty $1,500 bonus, but read the fine print” and “Szymanski goes out with an A+ as faculty get slammed”.
Spinnaker Media won third with our "50th Anniversary Edition" magazine, released during the spring 2022 semester that I spearheaded as editor-in-chief.
