Interview

Have you ever used a typewriter?

For work? No. For fun? Absolutely.

What does it mean to be a journalist?

Being a journalist means being there through the heartache, and there for the celebrations... and learning to tell everyone's story.

What tools and software do you use to do your job?

I use Inception, Overdrive and Velocity. And, of course, my beloved Chrome and my accursed Internet Explorer.

What's your favorite social network?

Does Twitch count as a social network? I love Twitch because I've met some of my favorite people on that site. Otherwise, Instagram.

Why did you become a journalist?

If I'm honest, it's because I wanted to write about music. But now? It's because I love telling stories.

Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?

I didn't. To be honest, I wanted to pursue a job in agriculture when I was in high school.

What story are you most proud of writing or working on?

It's long gone in a great archive blowup, but when I was a newspaper reporter, I got to tell the brave journey of a young boy with cancer.

When's the best time to pitch you?

I get into work at 2 p.m. MST, I'm awake before then, but how "functioning" I fall depends on the day.

What's your favorite drink?

Please don't judge me, but I love tomato juice with salt and pepper.

Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?

I love National Geographic!

What's the most common misperception about your beat?

I'm a producer... and I do live second-by-second, but I'm not that mean when it comes to time.
