1 INTRODUCTION Microorganisms are commonly associated with plants in tightly interconnected interactions known as symbiosis. These interactions have the potential to influence evolution and ecological functions in host species, as well as indirectly impact other species within the community (Thrall et al., 2007). Symbioses can display varying interaction outcomes, depending on whether microorganisms exert detrimental or beneficial effects on host fitness.
