Cath Kidston’s Garden Notes in September
This is one of my favourite times of year. I love that defining moment when the air turns fresh one morning and signals that the autumn season has really begun. My shopping research this month has naturally led me to think about cosying up and planning ahead. I have learnt over the years that its best to buy indoor bulbs early, before favourites like paper whites sell out.
Cath Kidston’s Garden Notes in early autumn
As much as I love the summer months in my garden, there is a wonderful shift towards the end of the season that draws me into planning ahead. It’s the perfect time of year to mull over projects. I tend to save inspiration over the year and then decide which projects might be necessary and feasible in the coming months.
Cath Kidston's Summer Garden Accessories
This month I have been spending some time out and about looking for various items for work projects. I’m helping a friend with their terraced house conversion and they are keen to make sure their kitchen extension and garden flow nicely. They are looking for the right sort of table and seating as well as a great-looking contemporary office. I am always on the lookout for myself, and I love to know what’s new, so this is my idea of heaven.
Cath Kidston's Garden Notes in June
Although June appears to be drying out, May seemed to be all about the weather. It was a rather challenging month in my garden with such unpredictable rain and sunshine most days – it seems the tradition of April showers has moved into May. What was exciting was the arrival of a small second greenhouse to house my ever-expanding collection of geranium cuttings. This time I chose one from Swallow Ltd – and I’m delighted with it.
Cath Kidston's Garden Notes
My journey in the garden started when I was a small child. I was brought up in the Hampshire countryside where both my parents and many of my family enjoyed gardening. I was encouraged from an early age to have my own small patch in which I grew carrots, radishes and marigolds. I was always roped in to help with weeding and watering, so a love of plants and flowers are in my genes. When I started designing, it seemed natural to be drawn to floral prints, something I have always loved.

Sleep-Boosting Exercises You Can Do in Bed - Tonight
You might often crave a lie-down in bed when you’re busy, but it doesn’t always mean you can get to sleep straight away. And even though it’s not recommended to vigorously exercise in the hours leading up to bedtime, gentle exercises like yoga and stretching can be beneficial.
Three Ways to Get Your Kids Involved in International Women’s Day 2022
International Women’s Day is here and the theme this year is #BreakTheBias. The goal is to break down gender stereotypes and inherent biases in our everyday lives, whether in the workplace, school, or our home lives. If you have children, International Women’s Day offers a great opportunity to help them understand the importance of equality. It can be a chance to encourage them to challenge unhelpful gender stereotypes too.
How to Reuse Your Old Clothes and Reduce Your Carbon Footprint
Fashion trends can change as quickly as the seasons. To keep on top of this, many people splurge on clothing and discard last year’s garments. As your fashion sense evolves, it may be tempting to go shopping and buy yourself a new wardrobe. However, these unnecessary purchases are harmful to the environment, with an estimated £140m worth of clothing sent to landfills every year in the UK. Retail brands can design, produce, and sell clothing at an incredibly rapid pace.
Dreaming Of A ‘Green’ Christmas? Shop Sustainably!
Christmas is just around the corner and preparations are in full swing. Whilst it’s definitely the most wonderful time of the year, it certainly doesn’t help the environment. Following this year’s COP26, we are all aware of just how important it is to make every effort we can to be more sustainable. Small changes can make all the difference though, especially over the festive period when waste, consumption, and shopping is at an all-time high. So, what change can we make?

Christmas Presents For Rural Dwellers
Christmas 2020 is likely to be a strange one. It seems reasonable to assume that we’ll visit fewer shops in person this Christmas than in most years. Heck, we don’t even know which of our friends and relations we will be allowed to see on the big day. Thanks to the pandemic, gifts that can be sourced and bought online are more necessary than ever before. But do not panic: we’ve been busy making lists and checking them twice – and this one’s for those of a bucolic persuasion.

When you're a designer you have to compartmentalise yourself ever so slightly into creating things in a certain way. They say you should never restrict how you go about things too much, but I think you need to give your work focus and make sure it goes in a certain direction, and that should be much the same in terms of the magazine you choose to read as well. For me, Elle Decoration takes design as being serene, classy, complete, warm and feminine.
