I am very appreciative of Gurminder K. Bhambra’s, Andrew Smith’s and Sarah Bufkin’s reviews of Lucky Valley: Its particularly valuable for an historian to be able to reflect on the comments of two sociologists and a political scientist. We share a concern with questions of race/racisms, colonialism and capitalism across past and present from our different disciplinary perspectives. Both Bhambra and Bufkin raise vital questions about repair and reparation.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of sex and athleticism on self ratings of athletes and non-athletes in the areas of masculinity-femininity, sex role stereotypes, social self-esteem and attitudes toward women's roles in society. It was hypothesized that ma le athletes, as compared to ma le non-athletes, would rate themselves as more masculine and higher in social self-esteem.
