One of my favorite pictures of my parents, who met in the fourth grade at the Franklin School here in good old Fort Wayne, is of the two of them standing close to the White House. They are on their class senior trip, two of a busload of kids from North Side High School visiting our nation’s capital. Mom is wearing bobby socks and saddle shoes. They are both wearing coats so big they seem to be drowning in them. They are just wandering the grounds with lots of people milling around them.

Daughter fears for parents as hurricane hits

The daughter of a couple stranded in Jamaica is fearing for their safety as Hurricane Melissa approaches the country and she no longer has contact with them. People on the island have died in the world's strongest storm of 2025 and it has caused power outages, with wind speeds of 185 mph (295 km/h) reported.
