Abstract Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) have carcinogenic potential but are understudied in relation to childhood cancers. We examined associations between targeted and non-targeted PFAS measured in newborn dried blood spots (DBS) and the risk of childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) in Los Angeles County, California, accounting for maternal and child characteristics.
The impact of periconceptional folate on the DNA methylome of acute lymphoblastic leukemia
Abstract Periconceptional folate intake decreases the risk of pediatric acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL); however, the mechanism is not fully understood. We sought to identify sites of DNA methylation measured at birth both responsive to periconceptional folate and associated with lymphoblasts at the time of ALL diagnosis in a “meet in the middle” analysis.
Spatial analysis of residential location at birth, PFAS in public water, and childhood cancers in Southern California (2000–2019) - Journal of Exposure Science & Environmental Epidemiology
Abstract Perfluoroalkyl substances exposure via drinking water varies spatially and may be associated with childhood cancer incidence. We examined associations between residence at birth and incidence of childhood cancer in Orange and Los Angeles Counties, California, and if these associations change after adjustment for perfluorooctanesulfonic acid (PFOS) and perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) detection in public water supplies and other maternal characteristics.
