To visit Joan Danziger in her studio is to travel to another dimension. Located in the rear of her rambling Arts and Crafts home in Northwest Washington, past a cluttered dining room and sunny kitchen, down a long, dark, wood-paneled hallway, Danziger’s studio is a Serengeti of fantastic beasts. Here, a lion and fox with human bodies ride bareback on a gigantic parrot that is suspended from the ceiling, next to the world’s largest butterfly.
