Carol Kennedy, Acting Senior Assistant Chief Fire Officer at Tipperary Fire and Rescue Service, described a "tough evening" as there was a lot of flare ups. "We saw areas that we had already extinguished or got under control start up again," she explained.

Emergency services dealing with 'significant amount' of callouts in heatwave

Updated / Tuesday, 14 Jul 2026 07:33 A Status Yellow High Temperature warning for Cork, Kerry, Limerick, Galway and Mayo remains in place until tomorrow morning Since the heatwave began, the country's emergency services have been dealing with a "significant amount" of callouts compared to previous summer periods in recent years. A member of the Irish Coast Guard operations team, Shane Dillon, said that last weekend alone, there were 100 callouts from people getting into difficulty in the water.
