Ceau de Parfum

Memo should have consulted with a Brit before putting out their Robin Hood-inspired fragrance Sherwood. Knowing that oak, sandalwood, and blackcurrant were to be featured notes in the scent, my expectation was for a bristled, dry aesthetic with a hint of fruit, representative of coarse tree bark on your fingertips and dusty dirt underfoot, in line with Jo Malone London's use of oak in English Oak & Hazelnut. Crisp, clean, parched, and grooved.

The project of the French company Astier de Villatte, for which the perfumer Dominique Ropion recreated George Sand's perfume, wasn't limited to Les Nuits alone. As part of the historical mini-collection, two more fragrances were added. Furthermore, they are much older: Artaban takes us to Ancient Rome, and Le Dieu Bleu takes us even farther back in time, to Ancient Egypt. Both of the fragrances, as well as Les Nuits, are the result of a collaboration with perfume historian Annick Le Guérer.

It's getting warmer outside, and it's time for spring-summer fragrances. As spring flowers bloom, juicy colognes, soft fougères, and delicate bouquets of flowers emerge from perfume cabinets. Orange blossom compositions smell especially joyful to me in spring. There is something festive in the delicate aroma of neroli and the thick smell of fleur d’oranger, something promising, anticipating the onset of the celebration of life, which a warm spring breeze unobtrusively brings to us.
