Three of the defendants in a lawsuit filed by a Wilmington-based luxury homebuilder are seeking a motion to dismiss the case, according to court filings entered this week. In June, attorneys for Mark Batson, owner of Tongue & Groove, filed a complaint in New Hanover County Superior Court alleging that he was the victim of a defamation campaign and other misconduct aimed at destroying his reputation and businesses.

City Weighs Funding For Film Workforce Group

The Film Partnership of North Carolina will have to wait to see whether it will receive funding from the city of Wilmington. Wilmington leaders discussed a $100,000 request from the nonprofit group that aims to develop the film industry workforce during a regular meeting of the Wilmington City Council on Tuesday night. Council members also considered another $100,000 ask from the New Hanover County Community Justice Center.
