Care and planning must reflect the changing demographics of cancer incidence, writes Ceinwen Giles The new National Cancer Plan for England rightly focuses on improving outcomes, early diagnosis, and prevention: for too long the UK has fallen behind comparable countries in these areas.1 Pledges on children and adolescents are also welcome, but the plan is silent on the growing demographic of people aged 25 to 49 years with cancer.

What started off as a scratchy throat developed into a stuffy nose, slight cough, and a general feeling of being unwell. “Could this be it?,” I wondered to myself as I did multiple lateral flow tests. Odd though it may be, my thinking was that although I was ill, I wasn’t that ill. If this was covid, maybe I’d be okay.
