Crown Uptown’s future remains in limbo after council rejects contentious appeal

The Crown Uptown Theatre east of downtown Wichita on Douglas will remain standing until at least January 2027 after the City Council rejected an appeal by the owner. After a bizarre and contentious hearing, the Wichita City Council voted unanimously Tuesday to reject an appeal by Crown Uptown Theatre owner Mike Brown, who is seeking a demolition permit for the 98-year-old building at 3207 E. Douglas. Brown is currently barred from razing the Crown until at least Jan.
