Pope Francis Center to open housing and community campus to serve unhoused, neighborhood

The Pope Francis Center is on a mission to help end chronic homelessness in Detroit — and it will soon find out if its solution will work. The nonprofit had been operating for 33 years as a small operation until 2015, when it opened a facility, located at 438 St Antoine in Detroit, that features a commercial kitchen, laundry room and showers. But the nonprofit felt it was necessary to keep expanding.

Month of Design's Shop and See has goal to increase foot traffic in downtown Detroit

You may see new art and clothing installations in some of your favorite downtown Detroit businesses. This is because of an event called Shop and See, where entrepreneurs can partner with a local artist, who will create a temporary or permanent installation inside of storefront businesses. The event is part of the annual Detroit Month of Design, which is hosted by Design Core every September for the last 13 years.
