Have you ever used a typewriter?
Oh, hell yes. I typed everything all through high school -- I knew how to use computers but, weirdly, we never had one at home.
How is social media changing news?
Among other things, it forces us to disseminate information more quickly, and to have deeper, more active conversations with our readers.
Who's your favorite fictional journalist?
Les Nessman. Those bow ties were just so snappy.
Why did you become a journalist?
I always liked to write, from a very young age. My first job out of college was at a newspaper and it felt right. So I stuck with it.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
I did not.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Don't stop learning, about both the subjects you cover and the ever-evolving ways we can tell stories.
