In the retina, photoreceptors cells transduce spectrally distinct photonic into electrical responses and send them to visual cortex to store information as memory via ON and OFF bipolar cells and ganglion cells.

Abstract The miscibility between two oxides can be estimated using the Hume-Rothery criteria, which consider crystal structure, ionic radius, and cation valence. However, rutile-based IrO2−TiO2 and IrO2−SnO2 systems show unexpectedly limited miscibility despite fully satisfying these criteria. This puzzling phenomenon has not been explained since their phase diagrams were first reported in 1967.

1 Introduction IrO2 is used as a benchmark catalyst for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) in proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyzers, as Ir uniquely offers both high OER activity and long-term stability under the strongly acidic conditions imposed by PEM operation. The scarcity and high cost of Ir, however, are significant obstacles to the gigawatt-scale development of PEM electrolyzers for green hydrogen production [1].
