Andy Burnham has pledged to expand the use of detention for illegal migrants as he said the Government needed to "go further" in tackling the Channel crisis. The Mayor of Greater Manchester, who is expected to challenge Sir Keir Starmer for the Labour Party leadership if he is reelected to Parliament, said people in Britain felt the "country isn't functioning properly".
