2.4. Definitions of Validity and Reliability Validity is the extent to which an instrument measures what it is supposed to measure. It can be divided into four subgroups: criterion validity, construct validity, content validity, and clinical validity [14,15,16]. Criterion validity compares the results of a test with an external criterion, such as a gold standard, to determine the correlation between the outcome of the test and the gold standard.
