Racing is expected to resume as scheduled at Presque Isle Downs in Erie, Pa., on Wednesday, one day after jockeys declined to ride the final five races on the card following concerns about the medical response to an injured rider. Willie Martinez, a regional manager for the Jockeys' Guild, confirmed to the Paulick Report Wednesday morning that riders would compete on the Sept. 9 card.
Jockeys prompt cancellation at Presque Isle over ambulance response time
Jockeys at Presque Isle Downs prompted the cancellation of the remainder of the Sept. 8 card after what was characterized as an extended response time for an ambulance after a rider went down. Herbie Rivera Jr., a regional manager for the Jockeys' Guild, told the Paulick Report he was on site at the Erie, Pa., track when rider Huber Villa-Gomez's mount broke down in the third race, a $5,000 claiming event.
