1 INTRODUCTION Genetically modified herbicide-resistant crops had been adopted on more than 93% of the planted acres under row crops in the United States by 2023 and have led to the exclusive reliance on herbicides for weed control (Benbrook, 2016; Green, 2012; Kniss, 2018; Swinton & Van Deynze, 2017; Van Deynze et al., 2022).

Abstract We quantify long-run adaptation of U.S. corn and soybean yields to changes in temperature and precipitation over 1951–2017. Results show that although the two crops became more heat- and drought-tolerant, their productivity under normal temperature and precipitation conditions decreased.
