30 years ago, McDonald's nixed fried pies. Are baked pies healthier? After more than 30 years of being off the menu, the Fried Apple Pie is returning to McDonald's. The crispy-crust, deep-fried hand pie was replaced in 1992 by the Baked Apple Pie. The baked version isn't much more healthy, with only slightly less fat and fewer calories. McDonald's announced that the fried dessert would return for a limited time starting on June 23. The fried pie is already listed on the chain's website.
