1. Introduction Alopecia areata (AA) is an autoimmune disease that leads to hair loss on the scalp and other hairy parts of the body as a result of hair follicles being attacked by the immune system. This disease typically presents as circular or patchy bald spots without scarring. In some cases, it can also affect the nails, making them brittle or pitted [1]. AA is relatively common and can affect people of any age, with a slightly higher prevalence in adult females [2].
