Introduction While commitment to most blood cell lineages occurs primarily in the bone marrow and/or spleen, T lineage commitment depends on the specific microenvironment of the thymus. In humans, T-cell development is initiated by settling of thymus-seeding progenitors (TSPs) from fetal liver as early as gestational week 7 (1). From gestational week 22 onward, TSPs from the bone marrow become the source of thymic immigrants (2).
