PATROL flags are back up after the summer lifesaving season officially kicked off on Monday, November 17, and local surf life saving clubs say they’re ready for what will almost certainly turn into another busy stretch of long days, shifting tides and unpredictable crowds. For now, things are still fairly calm, but both Woolamai Beach and Venus Bay surf life saving clubs are warning people not to be complacent.

THE rain isn’t dampening spirits at Wonthaggi Turf with the match anyone’s game around 4pm between Wonthaggi Club and Leongatha Town. Town are working hard to get Club’s Ryan Thomas out, who at count was on 41 not out. But Town are nervous, unsure if they might be a little short on runs (from last week) if they don’t get a couple of quick wickets. Score 3/135 (42) with a target of 178.

ON NOVEMBER 11, 2025, the community of Leongatha and surrounds came together to commemorate Remembrance Day with a solemn service at the Cenotaph. Despite inclement weather, approximately 70 attendees participated in this heartfelt event, which was graciously hosted by Greg Nugent, general manager of Leongatha RSL, and Bill Verboon, president of Leongatha RSL. Retired Lt. Colonel John Blunt served as the guest speaker, reflecting on the history of Remembrance Day.
