Last Wednesday marked an anniversary for one of the saddest days in Scottish football. It was forty years to the day since legendary manager Jock Stein passed away at the full-time whistle after a World Cup qualifier. Stein was manager of the Scottish national team and in the final game of the qualifying stages for the 1986 World Cup in Mexico, Scotland travelled down to face Wales at Ninian Park in Cardiff. Stein’s side needed to avoid defeat to stand a great chance of reaching South America.
