What was your first job as a journalist?

Columnist for CultureMap Houston. Before that, I interviewed artists, musicians and writers for my blog.

Have you ever used a typewriter?

Yes, of course.

Who's your favorite fictional journalist?

"Joker" from the Stanley Kubrick film "Full Metal Jacket. "

How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?

A simple email is fine. I appreciate the time it takes for publicists to put together a pitch or press release.

What story are you most proud of writing or working on?

"In Praise of Young Poets" and "Welcome Homes."

Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?

The New Yorker, The Rake, Vogue, and TapeOp.
