What was your first job as a journalist?
My first job as a journalist was to cover a Friday night varsity high school football game.
Have you ever used a typewriter?
I have! I received one for my fifteenth birthday and I would watch football on Sunday afternoon and type post-game summaries.
Who's your favorite fictional journalist?
Clark Kent—no contest.
What tools and software do you use to do your job?
I use Scrivener for writing. It's perfect for planning your stories, compiling research, and the split-screen capability is a gem.
What's your favorite social network?
Instagram. I'm a visual person who gets inspired by ideas.
Why did you become a journalist?
I love the thrill of telling stories from new angles. Everyone has a story and I enjoy that I sometimes get to be the first to tell it.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
I did not. I was on the newspaper staff for my junior high school, but they had me in an ad sales position.
When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?
In the park with my daughter writing on a legal pad while she plays.
