TAPPAN — It was a star-spangled celebration in a blast of summer heat. Orangetown held a full-day party on Saturday, July 4 for America's 250th birthday, kicking things off with a reading of the manifesto that started it all — the Declaration of Independence — before holding a parade through the hamlet of Tappan and then an outdoor festival at the German Masonic Park. The reading began at 9 a.m. outside William O. Schaefer Elementary School, which served as the parade staging ground.
