In early May, the Aurora Borealis danced across the night sky and was visible as far south as Kent, Cornwall and the Channel Islands - but there are further treats in store. In just a few days' time, during the early hours of Monday, 3 June, we could see another astronomical delight. Spring 2024 has been very wet and it surprisingly looks like it will be the warmest on record (which date back to 1884), although for a lot of us it sure hasn't felt that way. As May draws to a close, in meteorology June marks the start of summer, but will the change of season bring a change of flavour to the weather? This weekend actually looks reasonably good for the bulk of the UK. Something we've lacked for quite sometime has been the influence of high pressure.

Northern Lights: Why did the Aurora Borealis look better through a camera than to the naked eye?

Thousands of people were lucky enough to see one of the best and rarest sightings of the Aurora Borealis, also known as the Northern Lights, on Friday night just by stepping outside and looking up. It was confirmed on Saturday that Earth had been hit by a rare "G5 Extreme Solar Storm" by NOAA's Space Weather Prediction Center - something which last happened in October 2003.
