Why did you become a journalist?
Trying to earn money while I plotted how to become famous and then subsequently "comfortable". Somehow I ended up here.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
Piece on Anonymous when that was a hot topic and story on shale oil's issues with debt as prices were about to plummet.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Cultivate relationships & contacts. Who you know & have met proves just as (if not more) important as what you've learned/written in past.
When's the best time to pitch you?
When I'm not doing anything.
What's your favorite drink?
It changes periodically. Lately it's an Arnold Palmer featuring grapefruit & cherry-infused green tea topped with blueberry-lemonade.
When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?
On the couch, or in the backyard which abuts a park, shooting hoops, buying groceries/cooking, or canoodling with my wife.
What's the most common misperception about your beat?
That I have a beat. If you don't specialize you sometimes get forgotten.
